Senior Librarian, Stornoway Library (9731)
37 hours per week, permanent post
£35,673 - £39,493 per annum, inclusive of £2,472 Distant Islands Allowance per annum
The post holder will be responsible for the management, development and delivery of digital and outreach services. You will support the Libraries Manager in the authority-wide development and promotion of the library and information service to ensure that local and national needs are met and that the service delivers on the aims of Scotland’s Public Library Strategy.
Duties will include: Leading, organising, supporting, developing and motivating digital and outreach services staff to ensure the effective delivery of library and information services to residents and communities across the area; assisting with the recruitment, management and development of staff to meet current and future needs; assisting the Libraries Manager with providing systems support for the ongoing maintenance and development of the library management system, OPAC, Wi-Fi and library website to ensure they are accurate and up to date and to log any faults as required; deputise for the Libraries Manager as required.
You must have a wide knowledge of and interest in books and reading. The ability to manage and prioritise a varied workload and deliver to deadlines is essential. You must have experience of staff management, training and development.
You must hold a degree in Library and Information Science OR a degree in any subject area with a postgraduate qualification in Library and Information Science. You must also hold a relevant professional qualification (e.g. chartered member of CILIP).
You must be willing to work irregular hours, including evenings and Saturdays as required.
Salary for the above post is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance. Appointment to the post will be on the first point of the grade.
