Job Description

To plan, support and co-ordinate social work practice relating to complex needs for children and families within Moray in line with local and national policy and legislation and to take responsibility for managing complex situations. This might require in person or group meetings on short notice.    

To provide support and advice to staff on the  implementation and development of risk management in Moray, and to provide professional advice on other professional social work matters as required. 

To support quality improvement by engaging with audit and quality insurance activity with regards to social work practice. This will also include data collection and analysis and service performance.   

To be an integral part of the training and development of social work staff in Moray.   This may also include delivering of multi-agency training events.      

Responsibilities

Consistently demonstrate a high level of competence and confidence in the full range of social work professional practice with children and families, particularly in relation to complex needs.

Provide supervision, mentoring and coaching to social care/social work staff and demonstrate best practice in social work and promote a learning culture, particularly in relation to risk assessment & management and understanding complex needs.

Model social work values, best practice and a strong commitment to continuous improvement.

Where necessary bring together and co-ordinate a team around a family to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach to protection, support, or care, when the family is presenting with complex needs.

Develop and disseminate a good understanding of evidence based practice, demonstrating how this can be integrated into day to day service.

To manage, plan, co-ordinate, set standards and monitor quality of complex needs in Moray in line with local and national policy and legislation.

To manage any budget and human resources allocated to the post.

The Individual

Experience of working as a Social Worker or similar position.

Experience of providing staff supervision

Extensive direct work with children and families

Understanding and experience of the main issues surrounding complex needs.

Relevant professional social work qualification (eg. CQSW, Dip SW, BA Hons Social Work) and registration with SSSC.

Evidence of continuing professional development.

Effective communication skills (written and oral).

Effective interpersonal skills.

Effective IT skills and experience of using IT packages.

Flexible approach to work.

Ability to coach and mentor staff at different levels including Social Workers, Senior Social Workers, Family Support Workers.

High level of organisational skills.

Ability to review and contribute to the production of policies and procedures

An ability to critically evaluate individual and service performance.

Ability to work across professional boundaries.

In-depth knowledge of the SSSC Codes of Practice and evidence of understanding/application in relevant work setting.

You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the Service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car/van.

Tact, diplomacy and patience.

Ability to reconcile demands with needs and financial and social pressures.

Ability to motivate and support staff.
